The song is known for its catchy melody, incorporating upbeat rhythms, tropical sounds, and vibrant instrumentation. Its lyrics are in Portuguese and reflect themes of love, dance, and the joyous spirit of the lambada dance.

“Lambada” became a massive international hit, topping charts in several countries across Europe and Latin America. Its upbeat tempo and danceable rhythm made it a popular choice in clubs and parties worldwide, and the accompanying dance craze added to its widespread appeal. Despite facing copyright issues related to the unauthorized use of an earlier Bolivian song, “Llorando se fue” by Los Kjarkas, “Lambada” by Kaoma remains an iconic dance track from the late 1980s.
