“The Final Countdown” is a song by the Swedish rock band Europe, released in February 1986 (October in the UK) as the lead single from their third studio album of the same name. It was witten by lead singer Joey Tempest, it was based on a keyboard riff he made in the early 1980s. The song became Europe’s most recognizable and successful track and is considered one of the anthems of 1980s rock music. Upon its release, “The Final Countdown” achieved international acclaim and commercial success. The song reached the top of the charts in over 25 countries and became Europe’s most successful single to date.
