ABBA – Super Trouper
The song was written by ABBA members – Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. “Super Trouper” is a song the title track from their 1980 studio album of the same name. The song’s name refers to the Super Trouper, a make of followspot used in large venues. “Super Trouper” – with lead vocals by Anni-Frid Lyngstad – was released on November 3 1980 as the album’s third single with “The Piper” on the B-side.
“Super Trouper” was ABBA’s ninth (and final) No. 1 in the United Kingdom. The song sold 709,000 copies in United Kingdom in 1980 alone. The single topped also the singles charts in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Norway, Belgium, and Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in the United States.
The music video was directed by Swedish film director Lars Sven “Lasse” Hallström. The music video used the large number of artists including a circus troupe. Parts of the music video were later reused in the clip for the song “Happy New Year”
